However, I'd say that Craig is the first actor to match what Connery did, in a sense, in that he has really remade Bond in his own image, rather than just offering a pastiche of what's been done before. Thanks for the Juan Cole tip, BTW. Interesting piece. I think he overstates the case a little bit, but calling the story "more Graham Greene (admittedly, Graham Greene on steroids) than Ian Fleming" actually isn't far off the mark. As an old-fart James Bond fan who read the books (more than 40 years ago!) and who believes that Sean Connery WAS James Bond and there can be no debate about it, I was pretty lukewarm about Daniel Craig in Casino Royale. But the plot of this new movie makes me interested in seeing it. As an old-fart James Bond fan who read the books (more than 40 years ago!) and who believes that Sean Connery WAS James Bond and there can be no debate about it, I was pretty lukewarm about Daniel Craig in Casino Royale. But the plot of this new movie makes me interested in seeing it.
