Nobody would’ve taken that bet

…what kind of odds could you have gotten in 1908 that a black dude would get elected president before the Cubs won the Series again?
(Although for a moment there, it looked like they might just barely pull it off. Can you imagine what this city would’ve been like around Election Day with two pieces of history to celebrate? But then the first round of the playoffs happened, and the Cubbies reverted to form…)

Interesting link (thanks) — I hadn’t watched the last two seasons of West Wing, and some of the parallels are striking. But 2004 was a far cry from 1908…
